George is a Partner with SIMPSONWIGLE LAW, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation and complex commercial disputes. He has acted on behalf of individuals, privately held corporations and publicly traded corporations.  Above all, George is keenly aware of the fine balance between the cost of litigation and the client’s objectives.  In providing advice to his clients he tempers any legal advice with the objectives of his clients, ensuring that his client’s goals are met and not just their legal rights.

George has successfully appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario together with various administrative boards, and tribunals. George is routinely involved in alternate dispute resolution both by way of negotiated settlements, arbitration and mediation. George has experience in:
•    Appellant advocacy
•    Franchise disputes
•    Contractual disputes
•    Construction disputes
•    Shareholder and partnership disputes and oppression remedy litigation
•    Mortgage enforcement and debt recovery
•    Commercial landlord and tenant disputes
•    Real property matters
•    Provincial offenses

George’s commercial litigation practice has also afforded him extensive experience in franchise law and he has held seminars and litigated with respect to the rights and obligations of both Franchisor and Franchisee under the Arthur Wishart Act, 2000 and common law.

“Winning has many different facets. It’s important for me to establish what the client’s end game is and to be honest with them as to the risks involved. Some want an equitable solution and others just want justice at any cost. My top priority is to determine what everyone’s goal is (my client, opposing side, etc.) so I can develop a plan that fosters a proper settlement that is achievable and that both sides can live with.”

"Being successful at my job is much more than simply knowing the law. There are so many different sides to legal arguments. Having the experience and understanding of the broad impact of the law, the facts, issues and peoples’ goals gives you an edge.”

“I grew up in Montreal’s inner-city, where we were exposed to many different people, not all of them good. Therefore, I have a solid history of dealing with aggressive personalities that has served me well in my chosen career. A good legal battle is fun for me. I love to fight, and I love to win – but the fight is always better when you believe in it.”

“I believe in being active an participant in my community. You cannot take without giving back. Otherwise, as a society we will never push ahead.”
