Stuart Law is a partner with the firm. He is an experienced civil
litigator specializing in conflict resolution. Conflict can take many
forms but usually arises out of relationship breakdowns in the
workplace, the home, or at the boardroom table. With his background
in employment law, family law, shareholder disputes and estate
litigation, Stuart is able to litigate these matters effectively and
decisively where required.
Stuart is also an accomplished and creative negotiator committed to
the fair and reasonable resolution of matters by way of mediation or
direct one-on-one interaction with opposing counsel. He takes a
practical, no-nonsense approach to matters with a view to the quick
resolution of the issues and the minimization of client costs.
Stuart helps clients minimize workplace disruptions to the smooth
flow of business by focusing on operational issues affecting
employees and productivity. Whether it be advice on hiring,
discipline, termination with cause and without, human rights, non-solicitation and non-compete covenants, sexual and personal
harassment, occupational health and safety, internet usage, and
employment policies and protocols, Stuart advises clients to ensure
that risks and potential liabilities are kept to an absolute minimum.
Stuart brings his commercial litigation skills to bear in the family
law context by paying close to attention to detail to ensure his
clients obtain the property settlements and support they are entitled
to. That means ensuring all assets are properly valued and accounted
for. It means ensuring incomes are fully quantified and disclosed.
Whether it be assisting clients negotiate separation agreements or
advocating fearlessly for them in court, Stuart is always mindful of
where his client and his or her family needs to be at the end of the
day. As a father himself and as a former Children’s Lawyer, Stuart
is very much aware of the price children pay in divorce. He is
committed to keeping that impact as low as possible.
Stuart is a realistic, strategic thinker who stays current with the
latest developments in the law. He can quickly remove the mystery
and confusion associated with the legal process for his clients and
concisely explain their rights and obligations. His common sense
approach and experience allows him to cut through the complexities of
contested cases so as to provide leadership and empathetic support.
After serving as Head of College, Stuart graduated with High
Distinction from Trinity College at the University of Toronto in 1989
with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours). Upon graduating from Osgoode Hall
Law School in 1992 and completing that school’s Intensive Business
Law Workshop, he was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1994. He moved
west from Toronto to serve the Halton and Hamilton communities in 1995.
Stuart is a former President of the Halton County Law Association and
the Rotary Club of Oakville North. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow
and a member of the Ontario Bar Association (Civil Litigation Section).
